What impact has our gigantic information network had on politics?

Patrick E asked:

We now have C-SPAN, 24 hours news feeds on TV, websites for every politician and or government entity. Politicians use twitter and face book to let people know their every move. Is all of this information doing us any good, or are we receiving too much information? Are we we becoming desensitized? Are we being overloaded and focusing too much on politics?
I was looking for an objective answer to my question, not a politically biased view on whether or not one station or another is broadcasting the truth. Please stick to the question.

I think it has a huge effect. Information is a great thing, and the ability to check facts is beautiful.

Years ago we never had this ability. We could check the local paper, maybe get the New York Times, whatever, some local TV stations, a bit of radio news, but most of the population was drastically misinformed.

this is why they created the Electorate.

Now, any information is available to anyone who seeks it. I can tell by the answers on Yahoo, people are really getting involved. I go to other sites too, and see similar reactions. I think it is great.
